Today, in Japan, they have passed a law banning lolicon. A friend told me about this, and I quite frankly disagree with it. It's still legal where I am in the US, so it doesn't affect me too much yet. I have yet to check my usual photo site, pixiv, to see how it's affected it, if they've taken the lolicon down yet. What are your thoughts on the ban?

I think it's fucked up, to put it simply.
Of all the things I'd expect Japan to do, this was not one of them.

Your friend is actually wrong. And I don't think you fully looked into this properly.

The FIRST draft started out against Loli. However it got thrown out. (Due to wording not being correct or some shit.) Years later they have now bought in this bill to "protect" youth. As a result they have screwed over the manga, anime, hentai and gaming industry. The new bill states that ANYTHING deemed inappropriate (Sexual or other wise.) is banned. So this means at the SLIGHTEST little bit of pantsu or innuendo they'll be all "OMFGBANHAMER!"

This of course has caused a lot of uproar. Seeing as this new draft is not just TOO vague. But anime and manga artists and producers were promised to be shown any other drafts which threatened their lively hood. A promise which has been broken beyond repair. Mean from next year a lot of manga, anime, games and hentai will no longer be produced, if it has the slightest thing deemed "inappropriate" by a board of prudes.

So while yes Loli is defiantly out... so is a lot of things. Not JUST Loli.

Oh and the man who proposed and push for this is a rapist and homophobic.

So yeah. Japan has pretty much signed their own death warrant.

May I just point out that although the ban covers practically everything, it does still cover Loli?
So his friend is not technically wrong, because it still enforces a ban on Loli.

His friend said it was Loli only. He didn't specify on it. Hence why I said he was wrong. Sorry I wasn't more clear on that.

I know a few of the artists are going to go against it claiming the law is in violation of "Freedom of Speech." Since technically it is.

Actually FemaleTengu, you're wrong <.< Ganja Kitty was the one that told him and he said that Lolicon was one of the MAJOR things banned. I know, I was sitting next to Ganja when he broke the heartbreaking news. I can imagine that it is the most 'popular' to be banned as it is a large niche. And after that shit like Yaoi, or extreme Hentai like Dark Love will be banned to... But the site does hint majorly to Lolicon ban, espcially articles on that site going "LOLICON BANNED!!!" I think MegaZero is concerned about Loli since it's one of his favourite niches, I gather. Like I would be concerned about Yaoi.

People who do hentai and politions are two different kind of disgusting. One is a mega perv who loves drawing smexing. The other is a greasy slimball that you just want to tie to the post and kick in the nads over and over again. I don't need to say which one is which xP I know you know. It's a real shame, because Japan is famous for their manga/anime/hentai and now they're being limited in what they can do, the number of artists are going to decrease and they will feel the effects of this ban. It's like telling a nympho that they can't have sex while ramming someone in front of them. It's just... no. The Japanese are massive pervs and if they can't unleash it in fappable hentai... fuck knows what's going to happen.

He didn't state that. Just said Loli. Which lead me to the false assumption of his friend being wrong. (Sorry Ganja. D; ) Plus it would have been nice for people to get the full story instead of just one part of it.

Thing is it isn't going to be one by one. It's going to be done in one go. In Feb 2011. (Could be April, but will have to double check on that one.) Since while it isn't in effect yet, they are already making lists, and sorting through it now.

This means a LOT of manga that are currently running will be put to a stop. As will animes. So most that aren't even finished yet will go unfinished. And with the authors of these going on strike and protesting... yeah. =/

This will also mean game series like BlazBlue and IDOL M@STER will stop. As will dating sims. But I think the major blow is the hentai. There are a lot of games, films, erotic mangas and episodes that are unfinished (Like Dark Love.) and will stay that way. =/

Luckily Hellsing manga and OVA put their stuff out before this. However they better get the worse of it out quick if they are going to finish the OVA.

I have no clue. But I know a lot of people want him out. And the board consists of all old timers who "believe" they are doing what's best.

Regardless, this will practically destroy the anime/manga industry. I only noticed the loli part, because it's what affected me most, as I am big loli fan. I hope there will be enough boycotting to get them to change it back. Was just on pixiv, and a very large amount of loli was gone. And my theory is that the Japanese society will either adapt, probably in a negative way, or the government will make things right. Maybe both.
