EcchiDreams Q1 Update (v5.4.0)

(More like end of Q1, sorry I mean... >_>)

Hello everyone, sorry about the down time on April, 5^th- 6^th 2012. But we've made some pretty big updates both to our server operating system, right down to the actual site. Such as which a lot of bugs (Particullarly with the CKEditor, what ever it's actually called) and some fancy new features.

Obviously, as history has shown round here, like as our new features are optional, we sometimes run into brand new bugs, that I will need to go fix. However I believe it's pretty stable, and much speedier too.

First let's get new features out of the way;

The two main new features are the bar along the bottom of the screen and profile privacy. If anyone can remember (If you were around back then) about a year ago (If memory serves me it was the 4.5.7 update or Q1 2011) we trialed a bottom bar; the trial failed misserably, and we took it back until all the bugs were fixed in it. It's back now, only avilible to registered members, and it's better than before. Much better.

Some of you didn't like the bottom bar last time, so you can turn it off by clicking the little light switch in the right corner. It will hide the bar for you. Notifications should appear down there as well, there is a buddy chat, we're thinking on calling it EDIM or something (Taking suggestions, obviously.) Anyone on your friends list (Pervy Posse) will be in the buddy list (If they are online, online mode and have the bar turned on) and you can chat to them, maybe to discuss posts in the RP section before posting, or letting your friend know you've posted. We intend for it to help the forum, as well as it give it a new feature. I know some of you (Me included) don't like giving out MSN's out to everyone. So EDIM is the solution. (Seriously... We're taking suggestions.)

We might put shortcuts into the left hand side to things on the site, like Arcade, Gallery, and so on, so forth (Take the strain off the text nav bar up there.) Wil need to find some icons first. Good ones too. So we're bringing it back, trialing it again!

The other new features is something requested (By MSN, by EcchiText and by comments) is a profile privacy feature. This basically will make your profile invisible to anyone who isn't your friend. (People not in your Pervy Pose) (In your user control panel you can turn it on/off)

(While you're in there, you might wanna turn "Allow me to approve members before they're added as a friend" on while you're there though. Just saying. I think I will try and put that into Privacy Options on a later update as well)

Yes this can be annoying to stalkers, but apparently this was a feature people wanted. We'll trial it out and see how the community as a whole like it. People who are not your friend will see this error:

I was able to update the forums too, apparently there are some major preformance tweaks in it that are now. As always the thread will be open to feedback, thanks for using EcchiDreams, good night!

P.s: I moved the random gallery images to the side bar, the images are smaller, and thus it loads quicker. It's also got more pictures in and looks awesome down there.

Before I get to what this thread is about here's a short story, feel free to skip ahead if you're not interested in reading my life story. xD

Social Networking has become a major part in the day to day life for the average human being. It helps millions (or perhaps billions) of people to connect with each other and share everything from their interests and day-to-day lives to causes and in some cases to raise awareness.

EcchiDreams has been off and on; social networking that is. We were the first Hentai Community to allow Facebook Connect (Where you could register and login to your EcchiDreams account from clicking one button) largely thanks to the very clever guys at Invision Power Services. However we've not really posted on it often enough to warrant having it really. With our Facebook group now at over 1,100 fans and our Twitter with 96 followers, management believe it's time we started giving fans and followers something to take part in, instead of just sitting there gathering dust.

A few months ago I contacted NekoLust into giving me access to the Twitter account, and I did get it, and started using it. However I preferred Facebook, for many, many reasons. But then... A member got into contact with me, someone who follows EcchiDreams on Twitter, and after our discussion it was decided to brush the dust off and get them active again.

Now the good bit; you can help us by following our Twitter and liking our Facebook and this can also help you too! This won't cost you a penny For those money concious EcchiDreamers out there. So you can help, and not spend a penny, of your hard earned cash.

Our Twitter will pretty much keep people up-to-date with updates, anything new on our facebook and randomness-ness, and also keep people up-to-date with freebies, offers, announcements, news and more.

Changing how we treat new members, and inactive members. Oh and a few updates! ^^

EcchiDreams Updates! (5.3.2)

We’ve made some updates today, in response to a fair few suggestions from new members and old members alike. A concern was raised via my PM inbox that EcchiDreams was punishing new members who had less than 10 posts; subsequently we have made some changes to our system that should prove to be more fair.

A few months ago, we put a restriction in place that when a new member registered, they could only look at 10 gallery images a day before they hit a bandwidth error. This was because we had severely limited bandwidth and people were “Taking the piss” by registering, and leeching without contributing to the forums. Once they had made 10 posts they were free to look at as many images as they liked. We were pouring more money into extra bandwidth costs than we were to the site, which has harmed us in some ways, we were unable to renew our forum licence which means we fell behind on forum updates, as well application updates, new features and researching/ programming.

However what wasn’t realised when this was coming into effect, was that this was punishing new members, which isn’t exactly friendly now is it? So we had an obstacle to overcome. How can we make things fair to everyone, and “punish leechers” to lack a better word.

The answer is now when you register to EcchiDreams, you will have unlimited viewing of the gallery. However there is a condition. If you have less than 20 posts, you’ll see a red box at the bottom of the screen saying:

It goes slightly transparent, when you're not hovering your mouse over it, we have a smooth GUI. ^^

If you have clicked this message you’ve ended up here, and this is what the new restrictions are:

When you register to EcchiDreams you will have unlimited viewing of all the pictures in the gallery (Except for private albums, obviously). However, if you have less than 20 posts and you don’t post for 30 days, your account gets downgraded to the “Leecher?” usergroup. (Notice the question mark. We’re not accusing anyone of being a leecher.) All you have to do is post, just once anywhere on the site* and you’ll have unlimited access again for 30 days, if you stay below 20 posts and don’t post again for 30 days, you’ll go back to “Leecher?” again, until you post again. This is automated.

It is our opinion that this is fair for everyone.

We are also scrapping “Inactive Members”. This usergroup is no longer on EcchiDreams, for many reasons. Once you have made 20 posts, you’ll never be registered as “Inactive”. It was a system brought in by NekoLust’s Administration, and it was trial, the system didn’t work as intended so we’re using it to handle the anti-leeching system.

As always we appreciate any feedback anyone gives on this update. Feel free to post below.

We’ve also updated a lot of out dated applications (Like the shoutbox) and introduced a “Like” chart to encourage people to use the like system. This like chart shows the top 30 people who have likes on the forums.

All the updates above are considered trial, and can be changed and tweaked. I will make announcements or post in this thread (And even edit this post) if there are changes. If it works we’ll keep them.

We are proudly against SOPA

On 18 January, EcchiDreams and our other sites, alongside many other websites, is going dark for a day to protest against the proposed introduction of the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA) and its Senate counterpart, the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) in the USA. SOPA will not just affect those in the USA; its knock-on effects would touch every website in the world. Under the proposed legislation, it would be illegal for us (or you) to link to any website – any website at all, including community-driven behemoths like YouTube, Flickr, Blogspot or WordPress – without checking first that nothing on that site infringes copyright. And we’d have to review those sites continually after a link was made.

Under these Acts, every person making a link to such a site would have to check the millions of other pages on that site to ensure that nobody, anywhere, is breaching copyright. Even search results would be covered under the proposed law. And if a website like ours were to be prosecuted for linking to another site where copyrighted material was hosted, our domain could be confiscated and our IP address added to a USA-wide blacklist, even though we are UK-based and have servers hosted outside the USA – all this without legal process.

So far, so ridiculous. It’s censorship and shifting of responsibility on a grand scale. But despite a loud chorus of opposition to the Acts from legal experts, internet experts, journalists, website owners like us, human rights activists (want to publicise the next Arab Spring using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or another site that potentially infringes? You’ve just provided the powers that be with an instant excuse and mechanism to shut you down) and ordinary people who just surf the web, the Acts stand a genuine chance of being pushed through. Lobbyists like the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the movie and music studios have much louder voices and deeper pockets than we individuals on the internet do; but by joining together on January 18 we hope that we can make enough of an impact to be noticed by those voting on the legislation, and by the news outlets that they read and watch.

So on January 18, EcchiDreams and our other sites intends to join the planned shutdown organised by Reddit. This site will be unavailable all day, instead EcchiDreams will be redirecting to ProtestSOPA -- We encourage those of you who can to join us – and if you’re a US citizen, please call or email your representative.
